Theremin is a musical instrument with excellent sound effect, but its traditional analog circuit design is very complicated and of high cost. This paper designs a new type of Theremin with a digital approach, which is comprised of a microcontroller, a digital to analog conversion module, an infrared ranging module, an audio player and digital audio processing modules and other components. This new type of Theremin is of low cost and easy to play, and makes all kinds of sounds of different tone of voice. This Theremin design with low cost can produce interesting musical instruments, and has a great deal of innovative and practical features.
