Supercapacitor-lithium-ion battery hybrid energy storage system has the advantages of high energy density and high power density. It can significantly improve the overall technical and economic performance of the system, and has become an important research topic of energy storage technology.The characteristics and development status of various energy storage technologies were introduced in detail. The definition and basic concept of supercapacitor-battery hybrid energy storage system were discussed in detail. The research advances in circuit topology of hybrid energy storage system were reviewed. The power conversion control strategies as well as the energy management strategies of the hybrid energy storage system were summarized. And finally the application prospects of supercapacitorbattery hybrid energy storage system were presented.
