The simulation model of various power electronic circuits can be set up based on Matlab power system toolbox. The input/output waveform and the influence on harmonic and reactive power characteristic can be easily observed while the circuits or parameters are changed. The methods used for improving power factor are proposed. The integration of Matlab simulation into the teaching and learning environment is effective, and students can understand the concept of power factor better.
